I know because I tried it, just in case this problem has not gone away by or after next Patch Tuesday. Fortunately, I still can find and download the updates from the MS Catalog, to install them manually. I click on it, get Task Manager running, kill the Control Panel application, things go back to normal. The hourglass is still going several minutes later, getting in the way of everything on the GUI except for the Task Bar. Today I have noticed a different problem with Windows Update: when I click on it at the Control Panel, I get the little hourglass that means “busy”. OscarCP here, being logged in as Anonymous, I’d expect, because my login still does not seem to register, although I once more got the double-barred “You re already logged in” message when I tried to do that.
